The Fiat 125p, produced under license by the FSO (Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych) in Warsaw from 1967 to 1991, became one of the most recognizable cars on Polish roads. Although visually similar to the Italian Fiat 125, the 125p was built on the simpler, proven chassis and mechanicals of the earlier Fiat 1300/1500. This mix provided the elegant, boxy styling and roomy interior of a modern sedan, while ensuring ease of maintenance and long-term reliability. Chrome bumpers, clean lines, and large windows gave it a distinctive presence on the road.
Practical Performance
The Fiat 125p was offered with a range of inline-four petrol engines, typically between 1.3 and 1.5 liters, producing from 60 to 75 horsepower. While not a sports car, it was capable of comfortable cruising on long journeys, with a top speed of around 140 km/h. A spacious boot, comfortable seats, and relatively soft suspension made it ideal for family holidays and everyday commuting.

Beyond private ownership, the 125p served as a reliable taxi and police car, and its estate version—the Kombi—became a go-to choice for tradesmen and small businesses. Its robust design and tolerance for less-than-perfect roads meant it performed well across Poland’s varied terrain.

Production of the Fiat 125p continued for over two decades, with more than 1.4 million units built. Today, it’s a beloved classic car, restored and showcased at automotive events.
